Buon Natale a Roma

Well, as we all know the holidays are quickly upon us. I can not believe how quickly this year has gone and that we will soon be home visiting the US for the holidays!

Yes - it's Ron, I am back for the holiday posting but soon - Tom will be back to give you a wonderful posting about our visit to Perugia, Assisi and Deruta! Stay tuned for that it should be a good one... (Just as a teaser - I have a truly talented artist as a husband...)

We are now 10 days before Christmas, the gifts are all ready, and the apartment (and Rome itself) is decorated for the festivities...
A cute little tree has been placed and appropriately decorated in the dining-room... We have been collecting mostly handmade ceramic ornaments from all the places we have visited while here - makes for a wonderfully traveled looking tree.
The stocking are hung from the wine-rack with care in hopes that Babba Natale would soon be there...
Granted we will not be there when he arrives in Italy but it all looks fun!

Let's give a little update on life recently:
   - The weather has gotten cold here - the Romans have started wearing their shiny-puffy jackets and their furs. It has pretty much been in the 50-60s during the day and down in the 40s at night. Not bad when you think it is December...
   - The Italian lessons have been going well. I actually understand most of what is being said to me but I am still a little gun-shy about speaking. We recently had a the Expat Holiday party and it was a lot of fun! I wish all my new friends in Roma a Buon Natale!
   - Tom & I took an amazing trip for the last 4 day weekend (the Immaculate conception, December 8). We drove to Perugia, Assisi, and Deruta - all fantastic little towns in the Umbria region north of Rome. Like I said above, Tom will do a full posting with wonderful descriptions and great pictures - soon!
   - We also recently went to the theatre and saw La Cage Aux Falles. The entire play was done in Italian (even the songs). Scaring myself - I actually understood most of the play. It was truly an experience - one that was not to be missed... As a review - I would say it was not as good as Broadway but better than some of the High School Musicals I have seen. In March 2012, they are doing a version of the Wizard of Oz (Il Mago Di Oz) - should be another 'not to be missed' theatre experience!

Well the purpose of this posting was show everybody a little of decorating done here in Roma...by us and by the local authorities...so here you go:

   - First a little Tree trimming...

Sorry butI have not had a chance to head over to the Vatican or St. Peter's but hopefully do before we head back to the states.
To end this posting I would just like to wish all our friends and family a 'Buon Natale e Felice Anno Nuovo'. We will see some of you soon and to the rest please enjoy the Holidays!
Abbracci a tutti
Ron & Tom
