Hot times in Rome...

Yes, I said Hot Times! We are now on our 4th week of 90+ degree Sunny weather with no relief in sight! I will admit it did rain yesterday...for about 1 minute - didn't effect the humidity at all - still feels like over 100!

The Great News is that Tom finished his big presentation and everybody loved it! The head honchos and his piers raved about it! Complimente! (Congratulations!) to him and his staff! Now I get my husband back and we can go on vacation...
One week until Tom & I are on our way to Sicily! Heading to the Leone homeland. A nice relaxing vacation away from the city, work and hopefully the heat! I will let everybody know now that I will probably not be posting for a few weeks while we are away. Don't worry, I will let everybody see our vacation upon our return.

While we wait for our vacation - there is still much going on here in Rome.
 - Ceramic class is going well. Last week we lost power at the studio - it was a lot of fun trying to sculpt clay with very little to no light (but I think I did better work that way - lol). I have two pieces waiting to be fired in the kiln - so they started me on a third. The other folks in my class have commented on my 'voloce' (speed). I guess it's the New Yorker in me...
 - Italian lessons are going well! I am getting pretty good at understanding when people are talking to me. My biggest problem is that I am very self-conscious about speaking. So, my instructor is starting to do just speaking lessons. I just finished my last lesson - 2 hours of putting together sentences in Italian. My instructor said I did really well but - 2 hours making about 20 sentences - I fell like an idiot. I know it will take some time and I did well, so now it's just the speed &  repetition I need to deal with.
 - The garden is still going crazy! We continue to get loads of tomatoes and peppers. Last Sunday I spent part of the day making another batch of sauce for jarring. Another 4 jars for the long cold winter coming soon...lol. Here is the last batch:

 - Our friend Robert (formally from Dubai and now living in Rome) just had a birthday so we celebrated with him! First we spent a lovely day at Fregene Beach and had a great lunch...
A little lunch....
and a lot of sunshine!

A little wine...
and a relaxing dip in the sea!

After we got home, we rested then, we met up with Robert and some other friends for a great dinner at La Piccoli Arancia (the little orange). It is situated on a little side street around the corner from the Trevi Fountain.

It was a wonderful day and we wish Robert Buon Compleanno (Happy Birthday!)

Going to sign off now - I have to get some things done and try and get back in the AC as quickly at possible!
As I said earlier - I will be posting for a few weeks - looking forward to our vacation and some time away with my honey. When we return from vacation our friend from New Jersey, Jessica, will be visiting for a week! Looking forward to her visit and a quiet August in Rome!
To all our friends and family we wish you well and send lots of love!
Ci vediamo presto (We will see eachother soon)
Abbracci a tutti!

Seeing RED again...

Ok - As the title leads you to believe - We are seeing RED!
Don't worry - Everything is OK!
We are just drowning in Tomatoes and the temperature has not dipped below 90 at all in the past few weeks. We even hit 99 degrees one day and the humidity is way-up-there... WOW! It was only June when this started & it feels like August here...not looking forward to the real August!
Tom has been working a lot on his big presenation but we still found time to escape the heat and hang on the beaches of Fregene. It was, as always, wonderful! The only problem is that the water of the sea was warm - not terribly refreshing (but still very nice)!

Let's get back to the garden and the Tomatoes...
We have been picking 20-50 tomatoes every-other day for about 2 weeks now...
Tom has been doing a great job of harvesting the crops after he gets home from work...

Running out of things to do with them (not really). Unfortunately, the heat has not made us want to cook a lot - yet, we still need to eat! So we do!
Here are a few of the harvests:
Day 1...
Day 3...

And they keep coming....
Even though Tom is very busy, he took time to create an amazing fresh cherry (pacchino) tomato sauce which he served with some wonderful pasta...
Looks & Tasted Fantastic!

We have also made many other meals including Pasta Peas Pesto & Fresh Tomatoes, Fennel Tomatoe & Provalone Salad and because of the pure-volume of the harvest - I took a day, made a sauce and jarred it for future use:
Step 1...Stew the tomatoes...
Step 2...Reduce & thicken...

Step 3...Prep the jars...
Step 4...Cool, save & enjoy later!

All else is well. I am still attending my ceramics class and doing my Italian lessons.
I have started a new sculpture - working with animals now (not very good but getting there)
The original...
My pale reproduction!

Yeah - I know my proportions are a little off. My instructor, Mateo, calls it Bello Ghatto (the pretty cat) - I call it il Brutto Ghatto ma bello cane (the ugly cat but pretty dog).
I hope it looks better when it is fired and painted - I start that next week...
Also been hanging out with our Expat friends a little - here we are down on the Isle of Tiber for summer opening night...

(L-R) Gio, Robert, Charlie, Me, Mira, Elisa & Elisa's friend
Opening night Aperitivo & Mira's Birthday!

Tonight an Italian movie producer is having a casting call for extras for his next movie - they are looking for Expats for an aperitivo scene. I think I fit the bill! Wish me luck!

Well, for now - everybody please stay cool (I know the temps have been hot in the US too)!
We send our love and best to all our friends & family!
Abbracci a tutti!
Ciao for now!
