Don't worry - Everything is OK!
We are just drowning in Tomatoes and the temperature has not dipped below 90 at all in the past few weeks. We even hit 99 degrees one day and the humidity is way-up-there... WOW! It was only June when this started & it feels like August here...not looking forward to the real August!
Tom has been working a lot on his big presenation but we still found time to escape the heat and hang on the beaches of Fregene. It was, as always, wonderful! The only problem is that the water of the sea was warm - not terribly refreshing (but still very nice)!
Let's get back to the garden and the Tomatoes...
We have been picking 20-50 tomatoes every-other day for about 2 weeks now...
Tom has been doing a great job of harvesting the crops after he gets home from work...
Running out of things to do with them (not really). Unfortunately, the heat has not made us want to cook a lot - yet, we still need to eat! So we do!
Here are a few of the harvests:
Day 1... |
Day 3... |
And they keep coming....
Even though Tom is very busy, he took time to create an amazing fresh cherry (pacchino) tomato sauce which he served with some wonderful pasta...
Looks & Tasted Fantastic! |
We have also made many other meals including Pasta Peas Pesto & Fresh Tomatoes, Fennel Tomatoe & Provalone Salad and because of the pure-volume of the harvest - I took a day, made a sauce and jarred it for future use:
Step 1...Stew the tomatoes... |
Step 2...Reduce & thicken... |
Step 3...Prep the jars... |
Step 4...Cool, save & enjoy later! |
All else is well. I am still attending my ceramics class and doing my Italian lessons.
I have started a new sculpture - working with animals now (not very good but getting there)
The original... |
My pale reproduction! |
Yeah - I know my proportions are a little off. My instructor, Mateo, calls it Bello Ghatto (the pretty cat) - I call it il Brutto Ghatto ma bello cane (the ugly cat but pretty dog).
I hope it looks better when it is fired and painted - I start that next week...
Also been hanging out with our Expat friends a little - here we are down on the Isle of Tiber for summer opening night...

(L-R) Gio, Robert, Charlie, Me, Mira, Elisa & Elisa's friend Opening night Aperitivo & Mira's Birthday! |
Tonight an Italian movie producer is having a casting call for extras for his next movie - they are looking for Expats for an aperitivo scene. I think I fit the bill! Wish me luck!
Well, for now - everybody please stay cool (I know the temps have been hot in the US too)!
We send our love and best to all our friends & family!
Abbracci a tutti!
Ciao for now!
Ron & Tom
